Southern Regional Middle School Choir
Periods 3, 6, and 7; Vocal Music Room

Everybody likes some kind of music, right? We may not all agree on what kind of music is "good," but I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't like some kind of music. Our class is going to explore all different kinds of music, through singing, listening, and discussion. We'll discuss and investigate many different genres of music, explore methods for you to become a better singer, and break down the many different aspects of music. I'm looking forward to an exciting year!

Ten Simple Rules for Being in Chorus Class
1. Come to class on time. If you're going to be late, bring me a pass. Also, if you can, let me know in advance if you're going to be absent.
2. Make sure you have a pencil, for marking your music or doing written work.
3. Singing and chewing gum just doesn't work, so spit it out before class starts.
4. Always keep an open mind- both for me and for your classmates. Don't be afraid to try new things.
5. When we're singing, don't be afraid to sing with everything you have. Giving a halfway performance doesn't do the chorus any good.
6. You will be sharing your folder with students in other classes, so keep it organized and keep your personal stuff out of it.
7. There will be a few times when I need you outside of your regular class time or after school, for rehearsals, performances, or trips. Let me know as early as possible if there is a conflict.
8. I will make myself available as often as possible for extra help. Can't grasp some part of a lesson? Having trouble with your music? Let me know when you're available and we'll make an appointment.
9. Part of your grade is based on participation- come to class ready to work every day.
10. Have fun- music is meant for us to enjoy. You can get a lot out of music and singing, but only if you're into it!

Grading
My grading system is based mainly around participation in class. You will get a lot out of Chorus as long as you're involved with what's going on. I will occasionally give some written work, to ensure that concepts are understood. Participation in our Winter and Spring Concerts will also factor into your grade. This class is centered around our goal of giving our best performance, so I feel that this is very important. The dates are listed below- if there is a conflict, let me know as soon as possible so alternate arrangements can be made.

Concert Dates
Winter Concert: Tuesday, December 8th, 2009; 7PM
Spring Concert: Wednesday, May 12th, 2010; 7PM

Stay tuned for more information regarding rehearsals, call times, and dress!
